Landcruiser VDJ70 Series

 

 

 

SQP has a long history of modding the L70 Landcruiser platform dating back to the purchase of our first shop ute in 2009. Dismayed with the lack of performance of it from the factory we set about making something useful from the dull OEM Toyota product. First place of call was the exhaust. Now this was a long time before 3" systems were readily available off the shelf- so out with the TIG and a bunch of 3" mandrels and a 3" system with centre muffler was crafted. The performance increase was immediate allowing 3rd gear to be used where 2nd was required before. We were heavily invested in the LS market through this era so apart from tinking with a few mates rigs, we really didn't focus on the L70 too much. Along the way through there we messed with rail chips limited success. The shop ute was sold and a VDJ200 took its place.

One of the off shoots with the VDJ200 develpment has been the work we have done in the development of VDJ79 mapping via HPTuner. High speed logging enabled us to open up code that others haven't seen and give a tuning package second to nothing on the market. World leading Tuning Software developed in Australia for Australian based platforms. Running a second fiddle to the VDJ200, we reckon it is time to bring the 79 out into the sunshine.

We have all seen how well the 1VD-FTV responds to some mapping. Even in the crudes form of jacked fuel pressure and the like a decent gain can be shown on the dyno. But this often leaves them with poor performance off WOT. SQP address our remapping in the same direction as Toyota engineers. We don't rely upon a bunch of hacks to get a result. Pure use of the code sees great increases with improved throttle response and increased economy. The PERFECT combination for long distance travel and towing. We can push it up some more for the guys that want it loud and proud but really are focused on the emission intact improved performance package. There is no real reason to remove a DPF on these jiggers when great increases in performance can be achieved with little more than a DPF exhaust upgrade and careful mapping on this massively derated OEM offering..

The dyno graph above illustrates the great gains that are there to be had on a VDJ79. With nothing more than a DPF back system and SQP remap, this 200km old service vehicle increased power by OVER 30%! Now that is BANG for the BUCK! But what about torque you say? Try over 200nm of gain measured at the rear wheels!

 

 

 

But you want ot step into it a big harder...makes some noise and enjoy a higher upgrade? The above 79 is a turbo back 3" system fitted SQP remapped parts getter. Topping out a MASSIVE 48% increase in power, these things really come alive! Typically a 90hp GAIN at 2250rpm!

 

 

 

 

 

 

As impressive as a 48% increase in power is, a 70% increase in torque is something else! That is 300nm measure at the rear wheels! An exhaust and a quality remap and the VDJ79 EXPLODES into life! The runs shown are straight after each other- repeatable baseline and remap- not just the "BEST" but BACK TO BACK. No water spray on intercoolers etc. Real mapping for real performance.

FOCUSED FAIR AND SQUARE AT THE DPF LATE MODEL VDJ70 SERIES, SQP HAS DEVELOPED SOME INDUSTRY LEADING, VALUE FOR MONEY, NEXT LEVEL PROVEN UPGRADES.

 

It is commonly accepted in the VDJ70 market that extended periods of load can raise EGTs and lead to the "hot side" of the VDJ VNT turb calling it quits. This can occur at "safe" AFRs that so many focus on and is no indication of an over fueling tune. Simply lugging the engine in too higher gear for too long will kill the wheel. Especially with a high boost target where the VNT is adjusting tight to try and spool the turb. But you want a higher flow turbo that can take a shit load more agony? Many high flow turbs are nothing more than a cassette upgrade on OEM housing and VNT. But in recent times some of the great tech out of variable vane turbos used in Petrol application from Europe has been the refinement of materials that will stand a shed load more heat without dropping apart. Many would be familiar with the term Inconel Stainless Steel as it has been used in ultra high performance exhaust valves in high end petrol burners for a very long time. The GO TO material in fact! The bonus of this tech is it is now in use on the hot side of diesel turbs that will never see the temps their petrol burning brethen do.

SQP is proud to offer the Diesel Central VDJ70 replacement turbo. This Euro built unit has a 713 inconel hot side wheel that takes care of the OEM offerings weakness. Billet CNC machined alloy compressor wheel comes with a rating of 2 bar so it is well engineered to LET IT EAT! Running on ball bearings and coming preset and ready to drop in on OEM plumbing. Using the standard Piezo injector these engines come with, power in the 260/270rwhp can be expected.
